Is CBD safe for pets?

Over the last 6 years, CBD popularity has continued to grow. The cannabidiol is now ever-present in health shops uk and down the UK in numerous different forms. 

We are regularly asked ‘Can I give CBD to my dog?’, ‘Can I give CBD to my cat?’, ‘Is CBD safe for pets?’ In this blog, we are going to address all questions regarding giving CBD to pets.

Can I give CBD to my pet?
There are currently no CBD based products that have been granted a UK veterinary marketing authorisation. Legally, CBD companies cannot advise on whether or not CBD is safe of pets. As it stands at present, it is illegal to give cannabinoids to animals in medicinal or supplementation form.

In September 2020, the government wrote to many CBD brands and manufacturers requesting them to stop making claims about CBD for pets.

Is CBD safe for pets?
There has been very little research conducted on CBD for pets. There is no evidence to suggest CBD is toxic for dogs or cats but there is insufficient evidence as to whether CBD could react with other pet medication.

Vets agree that some cannabinoids, such as THC, are lethal for animals.

Do you sell CBD for pets?
We do not sell any CBD products for pets as there are no CBD products that have been authorised for use with animals in the UK.

Why do people give CBD to their pets? Humans take CBD for many, many reasons. As the popularity of the cannabinoid grows, its only natural that people will start to wonder if their pets could benefit from the natural supplement.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that CBD oil is beneficial to pets. If you’re considering giving your pet, we would recommend talking to a vet.
